Perfect Breakfast to Start Your Day

One of my favourite Sunday morning rituals is to get up and make a delicious Açai Bowl. Why? Because on Sunday mornings I take time for myself: sleep in, eat healthy and just enjoy a couple of moments where I don’t have to do anything except watching an episode of a good TV show (I’m a huge fan of Grey’s Anatomy, Modern Family and Queen Sugar if you need recommendations).

I think the first time I ever ate an Açai Bowl was in San Diego two years ago and ever since then I tried to recreate it at home. The one ingredient that was harder to come by was the Açai puree but in the meantime a lot of organic stores have noticed the demand and they’ve introduced it to their frozen section. The Brazilian superfood is not the cheapest but trust me, it’s worth it.

You might say that you can also do it with Açai powder and frozen fruit but, in my experience, it never turns out as tasty as with the puree.

One more thing I like is that the Açai Bowl is so versatile! I’m not a person who likes to follow recipes (I think that’s also why I’m a good cook but not a good baker) so I often throw in random fruit I have left at home and it turns out delicious. In general I advise to use frozen Banana next to the Açai puree as basic ingredients. Feel free to freestyle the rest!

For those of you who actually like to follow recipes, here is mine of today:

Put into blender:

  • 1 pack of frozen Açai puree
  • 1 and 1/2 frozen Banana (I take them out of the freezer half an hour before blending)
  • 6-8 frozen Strawberries (idem as for bananas – makes it easier on your blender)
  • a little water (or almond milk)
  • A little lemon juice

To put on top:

  • 1/2 fresh Banana
  • 1/2 Pomegranate
  • some Raspberries (Blueberries work well too!)
  • Granola
  • Almonds
  • grated Coconut

And the very best thing about Açai Bowls? They taste like ice-cream but as it they are filled with fruit they are healthy and don’t have any added sugar in them! Enjoy 🙂
